Understand Your Rights When It Comes To Job Discrimination

Employment discrimination is against the law. You have legal remedies no matter what type of job discrimination that you have experienced.
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits race discrimination as well as gender discrimination. You are not able to discriminate in the workplace based on sex, race, color, nationality, or religion. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 makes it illegal to pay genders different wages if they do the same job.
It is illegal to discriminate against a woman who is pregnant or a woman facing a pregnancy related medical condition. You cannot hire or fire someone or discriminate based on job duties.
You also cannot discriminate against someone because of genetics. This goes against the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act. This includes genetic disease, family history, and genetic test results.
The Age Discrimination Employment Act of 1967 makes it illegal to discriminate against anyone who is age 40 or older because of their age. 

The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 is the employment discrimination law that protects people with certain physical and mental disabilities.
Under the Uniform Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994, it is also prohibited to discriminate against someone who is or was a part of the military.
Besides these federal statutes, your state may also have state laws that cover similar situations.
Discrimination occurs when an employer treats you differently due to one of the above listed reasons. This can result in you not getting hired, you being fired, if you are demoted, if you are getting paid less than someone else who is doing the same job, if you are not promoted, if you are given a different job assignment, if you are harassed, or if you report this discrimination and are retaliated against because of it.
If you feel that you have been discriminated against, you are going to want to be reflective in the situation. Examine your work place to see if there is a pattern of certain behaviors or policies that are leading to this discrimination.
If you believe that you are being discriminated against or harassed, you will need to talk to the HR department. Raise your concerns to see if there is a positive change due to it. If you don’t speak up, your problem might not be noticed. Ask that a written report is created whenever you make a complaint. If the complaints are not being taken serious, then you will want to speak with an employment lawyer. Your employment lawyer will inform you of everything that you need to do.
