Trump Moves to End DACA

| Sep 8, 2017 | Uncategorized

There has been a lot of recent news on Trump’s action to end DACA. This has a lot of immigrants wondering how this will affect them as well as how this will affect the future of the United States.
The DACA program, otherwise know as the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, shields young undocumented immigrants from deportation.
According to the NY Times, as early as March, around 800,000 young adults brought to the United States illegally as children who would have qualified for the DACA program, will now be eligible to deportation.

Mr. Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions have expressed they’re concerned with illegal immigrants. In the eyes of individuals, these people are considered lawbreakers who prevent American citizens from getting jobs. Individuals view them as the reason why wages are being pushed down. President Trump has expressed his concern for “the millions of Americans victimized by this unfair system.”
Protests have broken out, and many individuals are speaking up to protect the ‘Dreamers’ in the United States. Many are unhappy with this decision of President Trump and view it as cold-hearted, unfair, and could hinder the economy. It is pretty cruel to offer young individuals the American dream, encourage them to trust our government, and then punish them. Even Mark Zuckerberg had commentary about it saying, “This is a sad day for our country.” President Barack Obama said the decision is wrong, cruel, and self-defeating.
Now the decision to protect the immigrants lies in Congress.

There seems to be a lot of debate and mixed feelings. According to the NY Times, ” Mr. Trump told reporters that he had “great love” for the beneficiaries of the program he had just ended.”
