El Salvador TPS NOT cancelled : What you Need to Know Right Now

Thousands of Salvadoran families across the United States have been closely watching developments surrounding Temporary Protected Status (TPS). As of September 14, 2026, one fact remains clear:
TPS for El Salvador has not been cancelled.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) did not issue a termination announcement by the September 9 deadline. DHS subsequently stated that Salvadoran TPS beneficiaries will continue to retain their protections until an official announcement is made.
What Is Happening?
The Trump administration was expected to decide whether to extend or terminate TPS protections for El Salvador. Instead, DHS announced that a decision would be made “at the appropriate time” and confirmed that Salvadorans currently protected under TPS remain protected until further notice.
At this time:
TPS for El Salvador remains in effect.
No final decision has been announced.
Existing TPS beneficiaries continue to maintain their protections.
DHS has not provided a timeline for when a final decision will be released.
